Those with an interest in conspiracy theories will doubtless be tickled by the announcement of a new album from Sudbury pop adventurers Pistol George Warren. The record is titled Oceapur 9, and it comes with a rather fanciful back story.
According to a press release, "Sometime during the summer of 2013, a secret military operation designated 'Oceapur 9' was conducted somewhere within the Kootanay Mountains. Until now, the details of this mission have been fiercely guarded from the public eye."
If legend is to be believed, Oceapur 9 is an account of this interstellar espionage. The fantastical album cover is above and the tracklist is below. At the bottom of this page, hear the ornate, exploratory pop-rock cut "Light Up Your Matches."
The album is due out on June 23. After that, Pistol George Warren will be hitting the road in July. Most of the shows are in Ontario but there are also a couple of Manitoba shows. See the schedule below.
This is the group's first full-length since 2012's Mindemoya album. Since then, they've released the 2013 EP Hoots Duece.
