Pink Floyd Unveil Next Round of Vinyl Reissues
While Pink Floyd recently announced plans to drop their absolutely massive 27-disc The Early Years 1965-1972 box set, don't forget that the classic rock crew are also in the midst of an equally ambitious vinyl reissue campaign. Following the four wax releases from June, the band have now confirmed new pressings of several more albums via Pink Floyd Records/Sony.

As recently reported, the band's epic, 1980 double-platter concept collection The Wall and 1994's The Division Bell are due to hit shelves next Friday (August 26). Now, it's been revealed that fresh copies of Atom Heart Mother, Meddle and Obscured by Clouds will be out on September 23.

Each album has been remastered from the original analogue master tapes and is being pressed onto 180-gram vinyl. When the campaign was first announced, it was added that "special care has been taken to replicate the original packaging."

Atom Heart Mother was Pink Floyd's first album of the 1970s and is not just notable for the fact that the Hipgnosis-designed album cover features a memorable photo of a dairy cow. The first side features the 23-minute "Atom Heart Mother" suite, a six-passage instrumental piece mixing trippy mood music with a regal, recurring brass motif. The flip features four songs, including the 13-minute "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast."

Meddle from 1971 was recorded at various London studios in between tours. Signature Side 2 epic "Echoes" was worked on for several months during the sessions at Morgan, AIR and Abbey Road, with the final result coming in at a mighty 23 minutes.

Obscured by Clouds' roots are in film. Following Pink Floyd's work on The Committee, More and Zabriskie Point, the psych group were approached to contribute music to French filmmaker Barbet Schroeder's La Vallée. The music for the film had been produced in two separate trips to France. The music was eventually re-purposed as 1972 collection Obscured by Clouds.

Back in June, Pink Floyd started the campaign by delivering new pressings of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, A Saucerful of Secrets, More and Ummagumma.

The Early Years 1965-1972, meanwhile, arrives November 11 on CD and DVD/Blu-ray, as well as digitally, via Sony.
