Pick a Piper Take 'Distance' on Ontario/Quebec Tour

Caribou drummer Brad Weber went the Distance as Pick a Piper back in February of this year. Now, the project is gearing up to take the record on the road next month on a month-long tour.

The short trek will take the group through Ontario and Quebec throughout the month of April. Kicking things off at Ottawa's House of Targ on April 6, the band will then make stops in Montreal, Quebec, City, Waterloo, Hamilton, Toronto, London and Windsor.

Distance was inspired by Weber's world travels from Chernobyl to Guatemala, to the Canadian Arctic to Japan. The result is a "bewitching slow-rave travelogue of sounds," capturing both the joy of visiting interesting places and the melancholy of leaving them behind.

The record also draws on a musical range encompassing '70s Turkish psych, classic Afrobeat, early synth and modern club music.

"I continued to explore natural sounds on Distance while at the same diving deeper into sound design," Weber previously said in a statement. "I was really enjoying spending hours making interesting synth patches and messing with acoustic sounds. I did a lot more layering on this record, often using 4-5 of said sounds-per-part in an attempt to create leads and chords not immediately recognizable as a specific sound."
