Phosphene

"Ride"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Feb 23, 2016

California dream-pop three-piece Phosphene have a lot to celebrate lately — bandmates Rachel Frankel and Matt Hemmerich just got engaged, and along with bassist Kevin Kaw, they're almost ready to drop a new EP titled Breaker. Before the band's sophomore release arrives later this spring, though, Exclaim! is giving you a preview of what's to come with the premiere of the brand new single "Ride."

The six-song set marks the follow-up to the trio's self-titled 2014 debut LP, and was recorded with Sean Paulson (Tobias Jesso Jr., DIIV) at Different Fur Studios in their hometown of San Francisco.

"For our second release, we sought a more cohesive, defined sound," Hemmerich said in a statement. "The three of us got to write as a trio for the first time, so there was a natural evolution."

That tightened sound shines through on "Ride," without losing any of the hazy breeziness that draws the listener in and keeps them swaying along and raptly gazing at their shoes. Hear the band serve up their latest slice of sweet, shoegaze-y goodness by hitting play below.

Breaker is out on April 29.
