Phoenix Announce New Album

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jan 6, 2009

Sleek French pop stylists Phoenix have somewhat disappeared since the release of their fantastic 2006 album, It's Never Been Like That, perhaps due to the fact that singer Thomas Mars was busy raising his daughter with partner and Lost in Translation director Sofia Coppola. That's all about to change, as the band have cryptically announced the release of their fourth studio album.

While there is no solid release date, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is allegedly going to be released in the first quarter of 2009. On the Phoenix website, an extremely brief sample (it sounds an awful lot like a modern day Goblin, actually - Ed) can be heard from the album.

In a post on their Myspace blog, Phoenix had little to add other than saying that they "can't wait to share more of it with you and to see you on tour very soon!" Even that simple message is somewhat obtuse, as the band have yet to announce any shows for 2009.
