Watch Phoebe Bridgers and Courtney Barnett Cover Gillian Welch's "Everything Is Free"

In 2001, Gillian Welch responded to the rise of file sharing with her fantastic song "Everything Is Free." That song continues to resonate, particularly now that people like Spotify want to make sure everything is (almost) free. As such, a new performance of the song by Phoebe Bridgers and Courtney Barnett resonates well.

Both artists were meant to play at the Newport Jazz and Folk Festival earlier this year, which was cancelled due to COVID-19. Instead, the fest held an online edition this weekend. Barnett and Bridgers teamed up to cover the song, and the results were fantastic.

Adding an extra layer of irony, the performance was captured and uploaded to YouTube by a third party for free. You can watch that below.
