Philip Anselmo Under Fire After Shouting "White Power" and Giving Nazi Salute Onstage

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jan 28, 2016

A video of former Pantera vocalist Philip Anslemo throwing out a Nazi salute and shouting "white power" to a Hollywood crowd last weekend has surfaced online, but the metal vocalist has responded that this was the "inside joke of the night."

The scene was filmed at last Friday's (January 22) Dimebash, an annual benefit concert celebrating the life of the late "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, the Pantera guitarist slain onstage in a 2004 shooting.

Anselmo had closed out the night with a performance of his old band's A Vulgar Display of Power single "Walk." As the show was wrapping, he faced the crowd and motioned a sieg heil salute and promptly shouted out "white power" before being directed offstage.

A video of this was uploaded to YouTube, and with word of the incident travelling quickly, the singer posted a comment to explain what went down.

"Ok folks, I'll own this one," he posted, under his Housecore Records username, "but dammit, I was joking, and the 'inside joke of the night' was because we were drinking fucking white wine, hahaha... Of all fucking things. Some of y'all need to thicken up your skin."

Anselmo added that "there's plenty of fuckers to pick on with a more realistic agenda."

"I fucking love everyone, I fucking loathe everyone, and that's that," he said. "No apologies from me."

Anselmo was the lead vocalist of Pantera from 1986 to their dissolution in 2003, but he has maintained a prolific presence in the metal community for decades. Other projects he's been involved with include Down, Superjoint Ritual (now called Superjoint), Philip H. Anselmo and the Illegals, and many more. He is also the owner of Housecore Records.
