Phil Spector Gets Beat Up in Prison, Reportedly Prepping New Album for Summer Release

Earlier this month, arguably insane producer Phil Spector appealed his murder conviction, which has seen him serving a 19-year prison sentence since last year. Citing an unfair trial, Spector's lawyers unveiled a 148-page appeal to throw out Spector's sentence due to judicial error and prosecution misconduct. Perhaps there's a more tangible reason why Spector is fed up with the clink, as the music legend allegedly had his teeth knocked out in the jail yard.

According to the New York Daily News, Spector got his ass handed to him after some off-colour comments behind bars. "Phil has quite a mouth on him," said Steven Escobar, a friend of Spector's. "Not everyone understands his humour. He said the wrong thing to the wrong inmate in the yard." The "wrong inmate" responded to Spector's jokes by serving him a bruised nose, black eye and some missing teeth.

Besides putting an end to the ass-kickings, it would also be a good time for Spector's freedom with a new album just around the corner. While details are scarce, Contact Music is reporting that Spector's wife, former Playboy model Rachelle Short, will release a brand new Spector-produced album this summer. The record does not have a title yet, but is said to be coming out on June 8.
