Phil Collins has been in the spotlight for more than 40 years, but evidently the soft rock star still doesn't have particularly thick skin, since he called Adele a "slippery little fish" after his offer to contribute to her next album was reportedly ignored.
Collins previously announced that he was writing with the singer. Now, however, he has given an update on project, and it seems that his contribution didn't go as well as he'd hoped.
"She got hold of me and asked if I would write with her. She gave me a piece of music to finish and at first I didn't know if I'd failed the audition as I didn't hear back from her," Collins told Q [via NME]. "She said, 'No, no, I'm moving house and the baby's taking up a lot of my time, I'm not actually doing anything at the moment.' And now I've heard there's a [new album] coming out. I'm not on it, I know that."
He added, "She's a slippery little fish is Adele."
Of course, it's hard to know whether his comment was made in jest. Either way, we apparently shouldn't expect to hear Collins on the soul-pop singer's next album.
On the bright side, Collins' comment implies that Adele's new album is nearly done. Given that her 2011 album 21 was the best selling album in a long time, this will come as welcome news to many.
Of course, Collins also now has his hands full shining a light back on Genesis, who recently released the R-Kive collection and were the subject to a documentary.
