Pezz

Warmth and Sincerity

BY Stuart GreenPublished Sep 1, 1999

It's nice to know that despite his newfound super stardom, producer Steve Albini (Bush, Nirvana, Plant and Page) still has time for the little guys. And they don't get much smaller than Pezz. Utilising his keen knack for capturing critical essence in a recording, Albini works his magic with the Memphis-based quartet on their third album. And his technique is perfectly suited to the band, which sounds a lot like Bivouac-era Jawbreaker. Although they're a little rough around the edges, at their heart lie some terrific songs that are hard, raw and driving with just the right touch of melody.
