Petra Glynt Premieres 'My Flag Is a Burning Rag of Love' LP

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Sep 4, 2018

Petra Glynt is about to drop her sophomore album My Flag Is a Burning Rag of Love, but Exclaim! is giving you a chance to stream it in its entirety before it's officially out.

The Montreal electro-pop artist (born Alexandra Mackenzie) self-produced the entire album, as she did on last year's This Trip.

"It was fully self-produced in my home studio and mixed by the wonderful Alice Wilder," she tells Exclaim! "I love the fact that it only passed through our hands before being pressed to vinyl. There is something about the DIY nature of music these days that feels truly liberating and makes me feel like I'm cheating the system."

The songs range from "driving, danceable rhythms to intensely pummelling alien raves and softly shimmering eco-goth ballads," and tackling politically charged topics like the water crisis in Flint ("Health"), capitalism and data hacking ("Surveillance"), and empowerment in the #MeToo era ("New Growth") — but don't try to fit them into any one genre.

"The songs on the record are very diverse," she adds. "There is no distinct genre. I have no interest in genres. I can only describe them as MOODS. They are each their own little snowflake."

My Flag Is a Burning Rag of Love is out September 7 via Pleasence Records. Listen to it below, where you'll also find Glynt's upcoming tour dates.
