Published Apr 25, 2014After a nerve-ridden, sombre folk song that found Peter Lannon laughing off some bum chords, he and his four-piece band kicked into a pop-rock song about striking gold that brought the mood in the room up. Clearly a young band with Hey Rosetta!-via-Arcade Fire leanings, Lannon and company have a scrappy, naive innocence and they sang of young love and longing accordingly.
He has a rich, dexterous Canadian folksinger's voice and elemental vision for dusty roads and vast oceans that, with time and practice, would comfortably land him a slot in one of this country's three million feel-good summer music festivals. But based on this relatively shaky set, Lannon is still green, yet really game to learn on the job. He's a kid. He'll be fine.
