Peter Gabriel Takes New Blood Orchestra on North American Tour, Plays Toronto

BY Alex HudsonPublished Mar 16, 2011

Lately, Peter Gabriel has been indulging his orchestral side. Last year, he released the string-laden covers album Scratch My Back, and then he set his sights on a similar project, New Blood, featuring reworkings of his own songs. Now, the art rock veteran is getting set to take his New Blood Orchestra on the road for a 12-date North American tour.

The outing will take place this June. Along with 11 U.S. shows, there is a single Canadian date at Toronto's Molson Amphitheatre on June 22.

An announcement on his official website [via Slicing Up Eyeballs] promises that the tour will give fans a "opportunity to experience the reinvention of an iconic song selection -- from 'Red Rain' to 'San Jacinto,' 'Digging in the Dirt' to 'Don't Give Up' -- before the album release of New Blood later this year."

The shows will place "Gabriel's vocals centre-stage and bare, stripped of the usual rock'n'roll clothing, no loud guitars or booming drums to hide behind. Raw and soul-baring yet passionate and often joyous, Gabriel's classic songs here take new shape and extra meaning."

Gabriel has previously played some of his own songs with the orchestra when touring for Scratch My Back. Hear "Red Rain" in the video embedded at the bottom of this page.
