Peter Gabriel Nixes Genesis Reunion at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Announces Canada/U.S. Tour Dates
Peter Gabriel, who turns 60 next month, is already having a banner year. With a new covers record called Scratch My Back on its way, he has a busy schedule ahead of him, but things are getting even more hectic with the news that his former band, Genesis, are being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this spring. For the New York induction ceremony on March 15, the band are expected to reunite, but Gabriel isn't sure if he'll be involved with the performance.

"As far as I know, I'm definitely not going to sing," he told Rolling Stone. "I learned at our last reunion [in 1982] that you can't just get up there. You have to rehearse."

Gabriel even went on to say that he may skip the ceremony altogether, since he'll be in the midst of rehearsing for a solo tour, which now has European, as well as North American, dates. "I'm trying to find a way to [attend]," he said. "It's not easy. If I can work it out, I'll go."

On the plus side, Gabriel did mention that he may collaborate with his old Genesis band-mates on a new movie project. "The only thing that might happen is that some people talk about a film of the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway," he said. "If it is to happen, we might work together on that. We'll see."

As we reported last week, Gabriel recently shared a pair of podcasts featuring several clips of the new covers songs from Scratch My Back, including Gabriel's redoes of David Bowie's "Heroes," Paul Simon's "The Boy in the Bubble" and Neil Young's "Mirrorball." To hear a complete version of a new Scratch My Back track, Stereogum is streaming Gabriel's version of Arcade Fire's "My Body Is a Cage."

We also reported that there were rumblings that one of Gabriel's few North American appearances might be in Montreal. Well, a Montreal show has indeed been confirmed, as he is slated to appear at Montreal's Bell Centre on April 28.

Scratch My Back is due in stores on February 16.
