It's been 10 years since Peter Elkas stepped away from his regular duties with indie rockers Local Rabbits to issue his suitably titled solo debut, Party of One, and he's celebrating the anniversary of the set with a limited-edition vinyl repress and a handful of tour dates.
Originally issued on CD through MapleMusic in 2004, the LP is being pressed up by Elkas himself in a run of 200 copies, marking the first time the 10-song set has appeared on wax. According to a press release, the record was made shortly after Local Rabbits went on "indefinite hiatus," with Elkas prepping a platter's worth of "soulful pop and rock songs that are AM radio-accessible."
The album was produced by Don Kerr (Ron Sexsmith) and found Elkas backed up by both him and Doug Friesen (Dave Bidini Band, John K. Samson). You can check out the set's "In My Den" down below.
The trio will be re-teaming for a residency at Toronto's Dakota Tavern this April, where they'll play the album in its entirety and sell copies of the re-release. These shows will be threaded around Elkas regular touring schedule, including the Light of Day benefit concert in Hamilton. The April 12 event is raising funds for Parkinson's research, as well as for victims and their families. Elkas acts as a coordinator and board member of the charitable organization.
"Light of Day has become an important cause to me," he said in a statement. "I am becoming more and more devoted to developing the LOD Canada events with the great friends I've made in the organization. It's been an honour (and actually a lot of fun) to be included in the fight against Parkinson's."
