Peter Bruntell

Ends of the Earth

BY Brent HagermanPublished Jan 1, 2006

Peter Bruntnell is a cross between Steve Earle and Alejandro Escovedo, which is quite remarkable considering he's a Brit. His Americana songs have been, no doubt, reinforced by recent stints touring alongside Jay Farrar and the Handsome Family. Son Volt's Eric Heywood returns on lap steel, a defining feature of an already great album. "Here Comes the Swells" is as perfect as a song can get without being written by Lennon and/or McCartney and sets the bar to which the rest of the album comes damn near close to reaching. Ends of the Earth is a must for alt-country fans and Peter Bruntnell will, strangely enough, put England on the map for Americana.
