After sharing two one-off singles — "Pop Song" and "Eye in the Wall" — late last year, Perfume Genius has announced plans for a new record titled Set My Heart on Fire Immediately. Perfume mastermind Mike Hadreas's forthcoming project arrives May 15 through Matador Records.
The new album features the work of musicians Jim Keltner, Pino Palladino, Matt Chamberlin and Rob Moose, as well as Hadreas, who offered the following statement about the record:
I wanted to feel more open, more free and spiritually wild and I'm in a place now where those feelings are very close — but it can border on being unhinged. I wrote these songs as a way to be more patient, more considered — to pull at all these chaotic threads hovering around me and weave them in to something warm, thoughtful and comforting
Set My Heart on Fire Immediately follows the release of Perfume Genius's 2017 record No Shape. Hadreas will perform cuts from the new album on tour with Tame Impala this summer.
In addition to his new record, Hadreas has shared a self-directed new video for the album's lead single "Describe," with the help of Seattle-based choreographer Kate Wallich's dance company, the YC.
"I had been working with them for a year and a half," Hadreas said of the collaboration. "With lots of rehearsals, lots of performances, lots of relationships and energies, and I was feeling connected to my body. I was feeling connected to all their bodies. And having boundaries be blurred and having rules be gone and having all this play within nonsense and absurdity — in tandem with a real connection and truly valuable work."
