Published May 28, 2014Vancouver record store Neptoon Records has put out albums for a few local rock bands via its own eponymous label, and now it is venturing into the world of country with Percheron's new record Ain't Dead Yet. The LP is out this week, and it's available to stream in full.
The album was recorded by notable Vancouver producer Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung). He also plays piano on "What the Hell Have I Done," while Anciients member Kenneth Cook contributes guitar to "Captain Star" and "Smokin Cigarettes."
The 10 songs feature a raw, rustic sound, with acoustic strums overlaid with dobro licks, banjo plucking and fiddle. The twangy vocals are sometimes supported with haunting harmonies, giving the album a haunting, nocturnal mood.
