Pearl Jam's Former Drummer Isn't Getting Inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and He's Pissed

Pearl Jam were announced as one of the 2017 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yesterday (December 20), but the honour isn't being extended to all previous members of the grunge group.

Former drummer Dave Abbruzzese played with the band from 1991 to 1994, appearing on Vs. and Vitalogy, as well as touring with the band for more than 275 shows — but the Hall of Fame honours weren't extended to him.

Vocalist Eddie Vedder, bassist Jeff Ament, guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready, current drummer Matt Cameron and founding drummer Dave Krusen were all included, but not Abbruzzese.

Abbruzzese addressed the snub, sharing a friend's post that refers to the institution as the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fucktardia" and shares a statement — or as he puts it, "shoves this statement up someone's arse" — about the qualifications for inductee status from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame rulebook.

It reads: "As the original ballot is created, the members of each eligible band are determined by largely who was present and active during the most influential recording years."

Abbruzzese himself added: "I'm not sure how 275+ live shows and 38% of record sales doesn't fit their criteria…I may write more about this as time travels on… As for now, I look forward to sharing my first solo album with you all. Thank you for sharing your opinions & for your love & support."

He's since shared a number of Facebook posts from fans coming to his defence, with one particularly enthusiastic supporter even starting a petition to get the ex-Pearl Jam drummer inducted. Abbruzzese shared a link to said petition, adding the caption:

I am truly honored that you and so many people have raised up and called it like you see it. It has me overwhelmed for sure, but support such as yours has really got me digging the Hall of Fame that I am currently in. It's the one where my friends and I are free to enjoy our time, our music and ourselves. It's the hall that doesn't charge 10's of thousands of dollars for a seat at the table.

Head over here to see Abbruzzese's Facebook wall hit peak pettiness.

As previously reported, the eligible members of Pearl Jam will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at a ceremony on April 7.
