Peacocks

Come With Us

BY Patrick LejtenyiPublished Oct 1, 2000

Swiss ska sludge-abilly! This is primitive, basic stuff sung in accented English and it has something really working for it. Mix the ska sensibilities of a SoCal band in with some kirsch and strip horns away (hell, you could even take away a few key progressions and melodies), you got the Peacocks. It may not be pretty or even, for that matter, all that good, but why should that be a reason to pass it over? The Peacocks are masters of deconstruction - there is absolutely nothing superfluous or unnecessary left on this record that can be removed. You can't get much more minimal than this. Deja Voodoo and the Ramones would be proud.
