Paul Duncan

To an Ambient Hollywood

BY Cam LindsayPublished Oct 1, 2003

Atlanta-based singer/songwriter Paul Duncan enjoys the comfort of his own home to gain inspiration for his records. His debut album, To an Ambient Hollywood, is a personal montage of beautiful, humming music arranged in a classic style akin to such master performers as David Pajo and Sam Prekop. The music’s symmetry is toyed with through Duncan’s interest in field recordings, cinematic ambience and a wide array of instruments and session players. Though he wrote and recorded everything on his own, a number of contributors help perform on most tracks. What is captured in the end is a deeply intimate record that is rich in style and masterfully orchestrated with a dynamic attention to detail.
