Lambchop's Paul Burch breaks from that herd for this, his solo debut, but he doesn't stray musically too far afield. With the solid and beautifully named WPA Ballclub behind him, Burch travels now-familiar Lambchop territory of honest, heartfelt country, blues and swing, primarily of the lovelorn variety. He's a good songwriter and an engaging performer, though the earnestness can be a little limiting at times. Burch never really breaks out of his rut, but he seems quite happy there - in fact, he'll probably write a song about it.
