Published Mar 02, 2009If you're anything like us, you've been eagerly awaiting the heads-up on Passion Pit's long-promised and ultra-hyped debut full-length. Well, we're happy to say the details are finally in.
The leftfield Massachusetts popsters have announced their LP Manners will hit North America on May 26 via NYC's Frenchkiss. However, while they're sticking to an indie over on this side of the Atlantic, in the UK Columbia will handle their album's release and drop it a bit earlier on May 18.
Passion Pit's Manners follows in a wave of hype kicked of by their special Valentine's Day gift, the Chunk of Change EP, which lit up more than a few blogs last year with its introspective electro pop. However, in a 2008 interview with Exclaim, head Pit boss Michael Angelakos warned fans to brace themselves for change.
"It's a really big sounding record, which we're excited about," Angelakos said. "I think the instrumentation is going to surprise people. It's not an electro pop record at all. So, there's nothing off of the EP on the record, all new material. In fact, nothing we've played live ever is going to be on this. It's a completely new record.
"I think it's our backlash to the hype. We get tired pretty easily, so we move in all sorts of directions... We're so into recording all different kinds of music. Electro pop was just a fun, easy route for us at first, and that's just what people caught on to."
Passion Pit also have several live dates line up before Manners' release and will hit up several U.S. cities, as well as a few in Ontario and Montreal. Here are those dates, along with the album tracklisting:
