While 2013 may already becoming a distant memory, there was still a lot to report as we transitioned from old to new. For just some of the stories that graced our pages, here is our weekly news roundup.

Sadly, the week was marred by a few passings in the music world. First we learned School of Seven Bells/Secret Machines Benjamin Curtis succumbed to cancer at the young age of 35, and then news broke that Eiichi Ohtaki, of influential Japanese rock unit Happy End, passed away at 65. However, it wasn't all bad news this week. Blue Rodeo's Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor were appointed to the Order of Canada, members of the Acorn released an album as Sikken Laumann, Del the Funky Homosapien released a surprise album and the Pixies gave us another new EP.

We also had the Eagles' Hotel California being turned into the world's largest vinyl record, Led Zeppelin revealing plans for some new reissues and M.I.A. leaving Roc Nation.
