The spirit of Dischord Records circa 1987 is evident in these two releases. On their sophomore release, the six-track What We Defend EP, PAGC use their Midwestern angst to its fullest potential, melding it with liberal doses of the more dissonant aspects of Nation of Ulysses, Fugazi and Beefeater-style art punk. Oh, and throw in a little free form, jazz-inspired Euphone math rock for good measure. The result is hypnotic and cacophonous and truly inspired.
