PacificUV

Weekends

If there were a second (or maybe third) generation of Elephant 6 bands, PacificUV would be fitting flag-bearers. Other than the fact that they hail from Athens, GA, the trio have a penchant for vividly displaying aspects of their pop-minded forefathers, from of Montreal's penchant for weirdo funk to Olivia Tremor Control's wildly experimental side to the Apples in Stereo's Pet Sounds obsessions. After a three-year break, PacificUV released last year's Chrysalis EP, a collection of songs that added a healthy dose of personality and sonic flare to their psychedelic/post-space rock sound, demonstrated by the vocoder-assisted "Ballerina" and the Eno-istic simplicity of the instrumental "Saturday Night Dream" (both included on Chrysalis). While most of Weekends keeps that mysterious, hazy air alive, tracks like the synth-pop-lite "Funny Girl," guitar pedal symphony "Be My Only Shallow Love" and depressed robot ballad "Unplug Me" demonstrate PacificUV's adventurous minds, playful ears and forward-looking eyes.
