Oxford Blue

'Another Blue Morning' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Oct 7, 2015

Oxford Blue is following up his 2013 self-titled effort with a new mini-album titled Another Blue Morning later this week, and Exclaim! is giving you an early listen to the new set of songs.

Born Patrick Lefler, the singer-songwriter took inspiration for the new album from Canadiana greats like Stompin' Tom and Hank Snow, as well as more modern roots rockers like his own former collaborator Daniel Romano.

Another Blue Morning takes a "pragmatic approach to the struggles of being a musician and all that encompasses," waxing twangily poetic on the life of a travelling singer-songwriter.

The opening title track talks about the lack of "change in my pocket," while "Where Am I Gonna Sleep" and "Take Me Home" hear Lefler telling tales about seeking shelter. "Maria" is a slower, folksy ode to a loved lady, while "Lead Me Away" keeps the romantic wheels turning. The six-song offering wraps up with the bounce-along, bluegrass number "Quiet Conviction."

Give the whole thing a listen in the player below before it officially arrives on October 9. That same evening, you can catch Oxford Blue performing live at the Junction City Music Hall in Toronto.
