Owls Guitarist Victor Villarreal Announces Solo LP, Premieres New Song

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jan 2, 2015

While Victor Villarreal reunited with Owls last year to deliver their long-awaited Two LP, the indie rock guitar hero will flex his mind-bendingly nimble finger work on his own record in 2015. The artist has just announced that his sophomore solo album, Sleep Talk, arrives February 3 through Joyful Noise Recordings.

Sleep Talk is the follow-up to 2012's Invisible Cinema, also issued through Joyful Noise, and a press release from the label explains that the eight-song effort was recorded live in the studio with Villarreal tackling guitar, percussion duties and vocals simultaneously. Also onboard for the LP is bassist Erik Bocek ( Joan of Arc, Tetsuo), who had also performed with Villarreal in instrumental indie rock unit Ghosts & Vodka.

The set is said to further highlight the intricate and eclectic, "other-worldly" six-stringing of Villarreal, with his playing style flirting with elements of "classical, Spanish, indie and even metal." You'll find a stream of the record's rippling "'That Familiar Band' Song'" down below.

Pre-orders for copies of Sleep Talk on "Clear & Silver splatter" vinyl, limited to 300, and silver vinyl are being taken over here.
