Published Jan 06, 2010Adam Young, the tween-friendly douche responsible for gag-inducing electro-pop project Owl City, makes us feel old. Even though everything he does is so painfully awful, his "Fireflies" single tore up the charts in 2009, and made him a butt-load of cash. What's wrong with kids today? Was our generation that clueless when we were their age?
To avoid those frustrating dilemmas, we've decided that it's a lot more satisfying to focus on just how awful Young really is. Back in November, Young practically admitted that his Postal Service similarities were intentional, telling EW, "Since no one has done anything quite like it, it's almost like everyone is naturally saying this is the next step - maybe that's me, maybe that's this record."
But excellent Ben Gibbard records aren't the only thing this nasally chump ruins. As Stereogum pointed out, Young also lifted a photographer's Flickr photo for his Ocean Eyes booklet. The original photo, by Flickr user Ben Eubank, is called "Ice on the Lake," and depicts an epic skyline over Chicago. The Owl City version took the photo and applied a heavy layer of Angels and Airwaves-styled Photoshop technique for a result that just seems more authentic.
