OOIOO Return to North America for 'Gamel' Tour

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 22, 2014

Boredoms drummer (and Flaming Lips-inspiring pink robot battler) Yoshimi P-We recently announced the impending North American release of Gamel, which is her latest album with OOIOO. Now, the project has confirmed plans to support it with a North American tour.

The July jaunt lasts for barely more than week, in which time the ensemble will play eight shows. Most of these are in the eastern part of the U.S., but there's a lone Canadian date in Toronto on July 22.

This is OOIOO's first North American tour in seven years. Since Gamel is based around gamelan playing, a press release notes that these shows will "[bring] the transportive percussion of the gamelan to audiences." See the schedule below.

Gamel is out on July 1 through Thrill Jockey. It came out in Japan last year.

Tour dates:

07/15 Chicago, IL - Lincoln Hall
07/17 Washington, DC - Rock & Roll Hotel
07/18 Brooklyn, NY - Rough Trade Brooklyn
07/19 Boston, MA - Cafe 939
07/20 New York, NY - Le Poisson Rouge
07/21 Philadelphia, PA - Johnny Brenda's
