Ontario Arts Council Closes Touring Program Until Spring 2009

BY Vish KhannaPublished Oct 23, 2008

The Ontario Arts Council (OAC) has announced that the National and International Touring and Residencies Pilot program will close as of November 14, 2008. The full program will launch with a March 16, 2009 deadline for the next fiscal year starting April 1, 2009.

"We knew there was a tremendous need for a program that supports both touring and residencies outside of Ontario,” said John Brotman, OAC Executive Director, in an official news release. "However, the sheer volume of funding requests during these first few months means that the budget will be exhausted after final applications to the pilot are evaluated after November 14, 2008.”

The full program will launch in 2009 with two deadlines: March 16, 2009 and September 15, 2009. Deadlines to the program will ensure that artists have equal access to touring support regardless of when their tours are to take place. The program will continue to support artists and arts organizations who have touring, exhibition, distribution or residency opportunities outside of Ontario.
