One Hundred Dollars' Simone Schmidt Launches Fiver Project, Preps Single and Tour Dates

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 11, 2012

Canadian roots music fans are already familiar with Simone Schmidt as the frontwoman of One Hundred Dollars, and now the singer is ready to launch another new project. Known as Fiver, the act's first single will arrive on June 15.

In a statement, Schmidt explained that Fiver began with material that didn't fit with One Hundred Dollars' countrified style.

"I've been sitting on a lot of songs I've written over the past few years because they didn't fit with the country band's musical sensibilities or collaborative practice," she said. "Fiver's a project where I can play, produce and release songs in their best incarnation, regardless of genre, no matter who else plays on them."

The songs are said to contain strains of psych rock, folk and grunge, and we'll soon get a taste of Schmidt's new style when she releases the single Two Songs from Fiver digitally and on seven-inch vinyl via Indoor Shoes. It was produced in collaboration with Stew Crookes (One Hundred Dollars, Hawksley Workman).

Schmidt is currently working on a Fiver full-length. In the meantime, catch Fiver on tour in the coming months. See the schedule below, and learn more (including whether each show will be full band, solo or as a duo) over at Fiver's website.
