Drake has long been the pride of Toronto, serving as an international ambassador for Canadian culture in recent years. But the most talked about Torontonian of the moment is indisputably a 16-year-old from the city's East End. Penny Oleksiak has been dominating the pool and the podium at the Rio Olympics, bringing home a record-breaking four medals so far, including a gold in last night's (August 11) 100-metre freestyle race. Now, she can add securing Drake tickets to her impressive list of accomplishments.
Earlier this week, Oleksiak discovered that Olympic medals can't get you everything you want in life. Despite a hectic schedule, the teenage athlete devoted some of her on-land time in Brazil to trying to secure Drake tickets — to no avail.
To celebrate her achievements, Oleksiak and her fellow medal-winning teammate Kylie Masse attempted to treat themselves to some passes to see Drake live. It didn't pan out quite as well as things did in the pool, though, and they took their frustration to social media.
Thankfully, though, the swimmer's growing legion of fans made her plea go viral and Toronto radio station 93.5 The Move has stepped up and done their civic duty, promising Oleksiak some tickets to an upcoming Drake show.
Oleksiak's devotion to Drake first became apparent after her silver medal win for the 100-metre butterfly on just the second day of competition — giving partial credit to the 6 God himself for her stellar performance.
And who knows? If Drake catches wind of the Olympian's enthusiasm, maybe she'll even find herself training in his spiffy new pool before the 2020 games.
