Oliver Swain's Big Machine

'Never More Together' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Oct 9, 2015

Oliver Swain's Big Machine release their latest album Never More Together today (October 9), and Exclaim! is giving you a chance to hear it in its entirety.

The Victoria-born Swain describes his Americana-tinged sound as a "folk rock odyssey," and his songs take the listener on a bluegrass-y trek guided by clawhammer banjo, bowed bass and slack key guitar playing. More conventional folk styles blend with modern rock and classic R&B influences, creating a sound that's both reverential to musical tradition and unique in today's sonic landscape.

From the plucky, fast-paced opening title track to the soulful string-driven ballad "No Strange Thing" to the darker vibes of "Apple Sucklin' Tree" and finally to the warmth of gorgeous album ender "Take Me Up," Never More Together has a sampling of something for everyone.
