Prolific Of Montreal frontman Kevin Barnes just can't stop writing songs. His band released their high-concept symphonic disco LP Paralytic Stalks earlier this year, but they'll also have issued a rarities compilation by the end of 2012 titled Daughter of Cloud.
The collection will arrive October 23 digitally, on CD and cyan-coloured vinyl via Polyvinyl Records. A press release explains that Daughter of Cloud will contain 17 Of Montreal recordings, with ten of them being previously unreleased. The rest are taken from out-of-print or limited-edition CDs and 7-inches. Most appear to be Barnes originals, but the set closes with a cover of Buffalo Springfield's "Expecting to Fly."
The material, which approximately runs from the group's Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?-era up to present day, won't just be presented in chronological order. Barnes has apparently sequenced this new collection "to give the listener the same feeling they would receive upon hearing a brand new album."
To whet our whistles, the band have offered up a stream of nu-disco cut "Sails, Hermaphroditic," which you can sample in the SoundCloud player down below.
Of Montreal will also spend a good chunk of their time this fall hitting North American stages, including one Canadian stop at the Halifax Pop Explosion. You can peep the details down below.
