Of Montreal Announce Career-Spanning Documentary

BY Alex HudsonPublished Nov 12, 2012

Pop freaks Of Montreal have always had a flair for the visually spectacular, and soon the band will commit their entire history to celluloid with a new feature-length documentary titled Song Dynasties. They are currently aiming to raise $75,000 on Kickstarter to make this project a reality.

The band began professionally filming some of their live shows beginning in 2007, and even documented some behind-the-scenes footage from the road. Over the years, they continued filming moments both on- and off-stage, and they even turned up a box of camcorder tapes dating back to their early years. All told, there are hundreds of hours of footage that span 16 years.

If the fundraiser goes as planned, the band intend to finish the flick by March. They explained, "We need to bring a crew on the road to shoot the final round of footage and conduct interviews, as well as pay for their flights, costly venue filming fees, digitizing dozens of old tapes, lots of hard drives to store the footage, editing the documentary and the list of expenses goes on and on."

Depending on how much money you pledge, you can receive prizes including Song Dynasties on DVD, an exclusive collection of early rarities called Young Froth/Taypiss, a chance to dance on stage during a show, a screening with the band, and even some iconic props and clothing items used by the band.
