Obama's Suggested Canadian Playlist Revealed

Obama's Suggested Canadian Playlist Revealed
Now that we can officially ditch that awkward President-Elect handle for the much simpler, sleeker President Obama, we can finally get down to what's really important: which Canadian songs should the ol' Hopemeister be rocking to his Zune? Well, thanks to CBC Radio 2, we now know.

Through a little initiative dubbed " "49 Songs from North of the 49th Parallel," the broadcaster recently asked Canadians to help assemble a playlist of 49 songs they thought best define this great nation of ours to the new president. As previously reported, listeners sent in their song entries, a shortlist was made and now the final 49 have been announced.

Obviously, there are few no-brainers on Obama's playlist, such as Gordon Lightfoot's "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" and "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," Buffy Sainte-Marie's "Universal Solider" and "The Hockey Song" by Stompin' Tom Connors. There are also the always classic rock numbers like the Guess Who's "American Woman," Rush's "Closer to the Heart" and Neil Young's "Rockin' In the Free World."

But featured as well are a few more indie-leaning numbers, including Arcade Fire's "Rebellion (Lies)," Malajube's "Montréal -40 C" and the Weakerthans' much-loved homage to the 'Peg, "One Great City!" And yeah, sorry to tell you this but "If I Had $1,000,000" by the Barenaked Ladies did make the list.
