Published Jul 17, 2008U.S. Democratic presidential nominee and supposed shoe-in for the U.S. Presidency, Barack Obama has reportedly kept the weekend of August 1 to 3 open to make a last-minute, somewhat surprise guest appearance at Lollapalooza in Chicago's Grant Park.
The Daily Swarm reports that Obama, who's from Chicago and can walk or bike to his campaign HQ just blocks away, is rumoured to be on hand that weekend to announce one of the scheduled, Chicago-based headliners, such as Kanye West or Wilco, both of whom he has admitted his fondness for and vice versa.
According to the Swarm, "Obama has already met with Kanye West to enlist his active support in the campaign, and the rapper is reportedly scheduled to perform at an event during the Democratic National Convention in Denver. Wilco and lead singer Jeff Tweedy are long-time Obama supporters, and just last week the candidate made an appearance at a Chicago fundraising event headlined by Tweedy and blues musician Otis Clay, proclaiming on stage, 'I love Wilco.'"
Though no word has been given as to whether Obama would become the umpteenth honorary member of Broken Social Scene, as you can see above, it would be pretty cool.
Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Love and Rockets, the National and Cat Power are also set to play the festival.
