NXNE Unveils Film Program with Documentaries About Jay Reatard, the Replacements

This year's NXNE festival has already announced its impressive music lineup, which will bring artists like Devo, Twin Shadow, OFF! and Art Brut to Toronto from June 13 to 19. Now, the organizers have unveiled some of the films that will be shown at the festival.

This will mark the tenth anniversary of the NXNE Film Festival (the music portion began several years earlier). The program specializes in movies with a music slant, and this includes the Canadian premiere of Better Than Something: Jay Reatard, a documentary about the late punk songwriter that was shot just months before his death.

The festival also features the new Replacements documentary Color Me Obsessed and Kunst-Camera: J.X. Williams' Cabinet of Curiosities. The latter is a look at avant-garde director (and punk video specialist) J.X. Williams, which will serve as the gala film.

This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of film programming, as the festival will include 40 movies. They will be screened at NFB Cinema Toronto: Mediatheque and the Toronto Underground Cinema.

You can pick up festival passes and wristbands now over at NXNE's website. Stay tuned for more film announcements, and be sure to check out the massive list of musical performers here.
