On the heels of a recently announced posthumous duets album, fans of the Notorious B.I.G. are set to get a better look at the life and music of the New York hip-hop icon with a new authorized documentary.
Variety reports that the doc, tentatively titled Notorious B.I.G.: One More Chance, was announced by Submarine Entertainment and ByStorm Film today (February 13) at the Berlin Film Festival.
The project will be directed by Emmett and Brendan Malloy, with Submarine and ByStorm Films serving as co-producers. The film is said to look at the life and music of Biggie, and its impact on the world. The rapper died in a drive-by shooting in 1997 at 24 years old.
The film will also be made in collaboration with Notorious B.I.G.'s estate and his mother Voletta Wallace. Variety names the Malloys, David Koh, Dan Braun, Wayne Barrow and Keith Miller as producers, while Wallace, Stanley Buchthal, Josh Taekman, Mark Pitts and Josh Braun will serve as executive producers.
"It brings so much joy to my heart that my son Christopher's music has made such an impact on the music community and his stories have positively inspired so many young men and women over the years, and still influencing the youth all over the world today," Wallace told Variety.
Emmett Malloy added, "The challenge of making a film about one of the most influential artists of my generation is what I live for as a filmmaker."
Of course, the death of Biggie and his West Coast rap counterpart Tupac Shakur will be investigated in a separate film by none other than Johnny Depp.
