"Nineteen Ninety Heaven" (Ryan Hemsworth remix)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jun 28, 2016

As that well-worn riddle of the ages goes: When is a distortion-blaring rock band not a distortion-blaring rock band? In the case of Philly shoegaze group Nothing, that'd be once you turn over one of your album tracks to Canadian sound specialist Ryan Hemsworth, who has cooked up a new remix for "Nineteen Ninety Heaven."

While one of the lighter tracks found on this year's Tired of Tomorrow, Nothing's original version was filled with electric guitars and fatly smacked drums. It also featured a symphony section buried in the mix, but Hemsworth re-envisions the piece to bring these bowed elements to the forefront.

Beyond this, the electronic artist introduces shimmering, speaker-panning digi-sonics, while eschewing the traditional six-string elements.

You can hear the heavenly "Nineteen Ninety Heaven" remix down below, where you can also find Nothing's upcoming North American dates.
