After a two-month wait, Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist and founder of community arts collective Lost Is Found, Nigel Edwards, aka NOMVDSLVND, has followed up his critically acclaimed debut, More Harm Than Good Part 1: Here For Now, with its counterpart, More Harm Than Good Part 2: Nowhere Is Home.
While Part 1 tackled Edwards' struggles and state of mind while finding his footing in the music scene, Part 2 is an acceptance of self in all forms. The production of Nowhere Is Home still wades in the bleakness and broken beats of the first album, though its scratchy lo-fi covering offers a tangible grittiness across the tracks.
The release plays out like a distant cousin of Arms and Sleepers, revelling in the heavier end of electronic and downtempo while pulling in the rhythms of jazz and hip-hop. The inclusion of raw percussion on "LSWHR," the scratchy, dream-laden soundscape of "Shortcut," with its looped plucks of strings, and the warmth of "Don't Know How," with its innocuous patter of rain and dusting of keys over a sleepy beat, make for a well-crafted, deep dive into the second instalment of Edwards' psyche.
