Toronto's Nigel Edwards (aka NOMVDSLVND) has released his debut effort, More Harm Than Good Part 1: Here For Now, on the city's Bedroomer label, a musical collective of artists and producers from around Toronto.

Ultimately to be packaged as a two-part compilation, Part 1 is a journey in atmospheric beat-making, with Edwards adding that the album depicts his struggles as a black male artist attempting to make his mark on the experimental electronic scene.

The album runs from darkly atmospheric and ambient ("If I Knew," "Astound," "Self") to more nuanced, layered tracks that dabble more with percussion-forward downtempo. It's tracks like "Flowers While You're Here" and "Block," with their synthetic double-time claps and wooden reverberations respectively, atop experimental electronics that stand out mightily amongst the ambient gait the album flows in and out of. While we await the second part of Edwards' compilation, due out this spring, this first offering is more than enough to keep us on our toes.
