Nodzzz Innings

Nodzzz Innings
For the most part, San Francisco, CA's Nodzzz slipped under the radar when they released their self-titled debut on What's Yr Rupture? back in 2008. The trio of Sean Paul Presley, Anthony Atlas and Brian Girgus have found a new lease on life though with Woodsist (Woods, Ducktails). Referencing Presley and Atlass days playing America's pastime in Olympia, unfortunately Innings isn't some elaborate, Ken Burns-type concept album (though they do sample Sunday Night Baseball's Jon Miller). Simply put, Nodzzz haven't changed their formula of head-nodding melodies, clumsy guitar jangle and affably nerdy observations about everyday life. Innings is merely a more beefed-up, lengthier companion to their 17-minute-long debut (well, 24 minutes in total). With definite nods to Pavement and the Feelies, Nodzzz play up the fact that they aren't particularly accomplished musicians. But like any punk manifesto will tell you, simplicity is their friend and the band's knack for effortless pop hooks in explaining their "Fear of Advice" or their indecision during "Troubled Times" is a strength they can live off for countless albums to come.
