Between all the package tours, club dates and outdoor festival shows that are likely hitting your city this year, there's definitely no shortage of concerts to check out. One event you're not going to get to bang your head to, however, is long-running travelling heavy metal show Ozzfest. Tour founder Ozzy Osbourne has just announced that the fest will be taking a sabbatical this year.
"No, not this year," Osbourne said in a statement of the tour's status. "I just finished a lengthy arena tour of the U.S., so I've decided to tour Europe this summer instead."
Founded in 1996, Ozzfest has hosted a number of heavy acts, from Marilyn Manson to Slayer to Pantera to the singer's solo sets and occasional Black Sabbath reunion gigs.
While headbangers North America-wide are likely crying into their flaxen manes, they should remember that this isn't the first time Ozzy's bailed on the event. The tour didn't take place in 2009 either. On top of that, last year's run was a truncated, six-date affair, while the 2008 edition only took place for one day in Dallas, TX.
True, Ozzfest has seen better days, but maybe this little breather will mean the prince of darkness will bring it back in full force next year. We'll be praying to the dark lord in full metal regalia in the meantime.
