No Joy Announce 'Pastel or Pass Out' EP, Share New Track

BY Alex HudsonPublished Oct 10, 2013

Montreal shoegazers No Joy released their stellar Wait to Pleasure LP earlier this year, and now the band are preparing to cap off their productive 2013 campaign with a new EP. The three-song Pastel or Pass Out will arrive digitally on November 4 through Mexican Summer, with the vinyl to follow on November 19.

Like Wait to Pleasure, the three-song EP was recorded with Jorge Elbrecht (Violens, Chairlift). According to a press release, it finds the band mining similar sonic territory and "striking a balance between the blistering walls of noise they're renowned for, with airy, expansive atmospherics that allow the songs to breathe and the melodies to seep through."

The tracklist is below, along with the outfit's upcoming tour schedule. Scroll past that to hear opening cut "Last Boss," which transforms from a quiet jangle-pop number to a fuzzy speaker assault and back again. As for the other songs, "Starchild Is Dead" is said to be filled with buzz-saw guitars, while "Second Spine" is more stripped-down and pop-friendly.

The song is available to pre-order on 12-inch vinyl right here.
