Nirvana Deny that Kurt Cobain Is Living a Secret Life as a Peruvian Rock Star

Is Michael Jackson alive and hiding under a heap of laundry? Maybe. Is Taylor Swift an Illuminati-ordered clone of former Satanic priestess Zeena LaVey? No one has officially denied it. Is Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain actually alive and just hiding out in Peru? Sadly, that one's been officially confirmed false.

Cobain died in Seattle in 1994 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head (though there's a veritable army of doubtful documentarians and Courtney Love blamers out there). The one thing most people could agree on, though, is that Cobain hasn't been with us on this earth making music for the last 22 years.

That is, until yesterday (September 12). The Daily Mail ran a story detailing a conspiracy theory that claims Cobain has been alive this whole time, hiding out in Peru. The proof? Footage of Peruvian singer Ramiro Saavedra covering "Come As You Are" complete with sunglasses covering most of his face and a bad blond dye job. If that wasn't unconvincing enough, the video clip sees Saavedra playing guitar right-handed, unlike the famously left-handed Nirvana frontman.

Despite the flimsy evidence, Nirvana reps felt the need to speak out and quash the rumours from getting further out of hand. The band's official Facebook page posted a message in response to the Mail's story. With the sarcasm basically oozing off the screen, it's pretty clear that no one in the official Nirvana camp is buying the tale.

Read the message below, and check out the footage of Saavedra's Cobain-esque cover — not literal incarnation of Cobain — of "Come As You Are" beyond that.
