Nils Lofgren has returned with a new solo album. The Crazy Horse and E Street Band player will deliver new LP Mountains on July 21 via Cattle Track Road Records.

"These songs are all born of raw emotion," Lofgren shares of the 10-song Mountains. "I gave myself permission to share my fear and my anger, my love and my hope, to be open about what I was experiencing without over analyzing or editing the life out of it... The album started as a form of therapy, but it very quickly grew beyond that. It was so freeing to work without any restrictions, to just write whatever came out, and it turned into some of the most inspired work I think I've ever made."

Joining Lofgren on his ascent are his Crazy Horse bandmate Neil Young, the late David Crosby, E Street Band vocalist Cindy Mizelle, legendary bass man Ron Carter, the Howard Gospel Choir and Ringo Starr.

Starr and Mizelle feature on the country rockin' album opener "Ain't the Truth Enough," which you can hear in the player below. Not only does Lofgren have the Beatles beat keeper on Mountains, but he also pays tribute to Starr's friendly drumming rival in the late Charlie Watts, honouring the longtime Rolling Stones drummer with a dedication titled "Won't Cry No More."

Mountains is co-produced by Lofgren and his wife, Amy Aiello Lofgren. Earlier this year, the guitarist and his Crazy Horse bandmates delivered All Roads Lead Home as Molina, Talbot, Lofgren and Young.
