Nick Thorburn Announces New Solo LP, Premieres First Single

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Feb 25, 2015

Islands leader Nick Thorburn is ready to jump back into his Nick Diamonds guise, with the solo project's sophomore album due to drop later this spring.

The follow-up to 2011's I Am an Attic is called City of Quartz, and it arrives May 26 through Manque Music.

While not much has been revealed behind the album so far, Thorburn has put up the new track "The Sting" on Bandcamp. The song is a sultry, late-night number full of whispered vocals, vintage sine waves and discofied, strutting six-string licks. The track was produced by Thorburn, with lead guitar lines having been performed by Aan Zee. You'll find a stream of the song down below.

Though the Nick Diamonds project had seemingly laid dormant of late, Thorburn's recent past found him contributing music to podcast Serial and playing reunion dates with the Unicorns, who also reissued their Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone? in 2014.
