In keeping with Australia's tendency for bizarre celebrity worship, Nick Cave revealed back in May that he intends to erect a statue of himself riding a horse in his Australian hometown of Warracknabeal. Now, however, Cave says he won't be putting it up just yet.
In an interview with Time, Cave explained, "Unfortunately the fortunes of Warracknabeal are so grim at the moment, with the recession and this chronic drought that's going on, that it feels a little in bad taste to erect a giant gold statue. But one day..."
So that you can at least imagine it, Cave went on to explain the statue, saying, "I'm naked on a rearing horse. I have a modest loincloth on. It's this rather wonderful homoerotic work of art."
Perhaps Cave should reconsider his decision, as such a bizarre artifact could boost Warracknabeal's tourism income.
